News: Why I Love Region 3 DVDs

Over the coming months you will see a lot of region 3 DVDs reviewed here, for a number of reasons. One, because Korean & Chinese (amongst others) DVDs are region 3; two, because they usually get to the DVD release long before the film on it is close to a theatrical release here in the U.K. (let alone a UK r2 DVD); and three, because they can be cheaper than UK DVDs, with better packaging and extras.

There is, however, a fourth reason, and online retailer Yes Asia this week quite aptly demonstrate it: hot on the heels of Manga Ents.' release of Ghost In The Shell: Standalone Complex 2nd Gig complete series thinpak set here in the U.K., and their upcoming release of the follow-up TV movie Solid State Society, HK label Panorama are bringing the "Laughing Man" OVA to DVD with English subtitles. This is the film-length compiled from the core story arc of the GitS: SAC first series, with some new work to render the film seamless. There is a similar follow-up for the "Individual Eleven" storyline from 2nd Gig, so let's keep our fingers crossed for Panorama to bring this out too.

Finally, as a big fan of the anime version of manga Honey & Clover, I was thrilled to discover at YesAsia a live-action version already on DVD. Does anyone know if this is any good? Let me know in the comments below. If you're a fan of the series yourself, then follow the link to see.
